We are happy to announce a new member of our firm!
Kristen Murray is a veteran trial lawyer who worked for the King County Department of Public Defense (formerly the Defender Association) for over eleven years, primarily focused on felony cases, but with also with diverse experience in RCW 71.05 cases and appellate practice.
She began her career as a trial lawyer in 2002 through the prestigious E. Barrett Prettyman Fellowship through Georgetown University Law Center in Washington DC. During her fellowship, she represented indigent criminal defendants and supervised third-year law students in court as they represented indigent clients from arraignment to trial. In 2005, she moved to Seattle and joined the Defender Association where she practiced in various assignments as an attorney.
During her many years on felony caseload with the Defender Association, Kristen defended clients in all types of felony matters, including complex homicides, sex offenses (indeterminate and determinate), violent offenses, property crimes, domestic violence and drug offenses. She had great success obtaining beneficial resolutions for her clients including dismissal of cases prior to trial and jury verdicts of not guilty.
Kristen also obtained excellent results during the time she spent litigating appellate matters while working with The Defender Association. She wrote writs in both felony and misdemeanor cases, obtained discretionary review from the Court of Appeals and Washington Supreme Court and had the opportunity to argue in front of the Washington Supreme Court in Harris v. Charles, 171 Wn.2d 455, 256 P.3d 328 (2011). Three of her cases resulted in published decisions after review was accepted: City of Seattle v. Meah, 165 Wn.App. 453, 267 P.3d 536 (2011); State v. Moimoi, 271 P.3d 876 (2012); and City of Seattle v. Fuller, 177 Wn.2d 263 (2013).
Kristen brings her extensive trial experience to Hart Jarvis Chang PLLC where she will continue to practice criminal defense both in trial and appellate matters as well as civil litigation including personal injury and claims involving violations of civil rights.
We are very happy that she has joined our team!
