The Law Offices of Emily M. Gause PLLC is a criminal defense firm in Seattle, Washington. We represent clients throughout the State of Washington.
Why do I love being a criminal defense attorney?
I get to be the bright light of hope in an otherwise dismal situation. I get to be the voice that eases my clients concerns when they are terrified about what might happen to them. I get to fight with them, challenging every allegation against them, and working tirelessly to prove their defense. There's no other job I'd rather have.
Criminal defense is my passion.
After graduating with a degree in criminal justice from Washington State University, I dove into law school with the intent of becoming a criminal defense attorney. My commitment to this path has never wavered. While attending Seattle University School of Law, I worked at Northwest Defenders Association, a public defender agency in King County. Prior to that, I was a Rule 9 Law Clerk with the Washington State Attorney General's Office where I focused on dependency cases and juvenile law.
For years, I worked alongside John Henry Browne, a notorious criminal defense attorney who has practiced in Seattle for close to 40 years. I learned from Mr. Browne's extensive trial experience and launched my practice by defending high-stakes, high-profile felonies throughout the state of Washington with his firm.
I started my own firm in November 2014. At the Law Offices of Emily M. Gause, I am able to provide affordable, aggressive, and compassionate advocacy for my clients.
My practice focuses on representing people accused of serious felony crimes in state courts and in federal courts, both in the Western District of Washington as well as the Eastern District of Washington. I practice throughout the State of Washington, so I am familiar with many courts in various counties including: Kitsap, King, Snohomish, Whatcom, Pierce, Cowlitz, Clark, Chelan, Kittitas, and Garfield.
I believe that everyone has a story, and my role is to be the advocate that tells your story.
"Our Constitution is a remarkable, beautiful gift. But it’s really just a piece of parchment. It has no power on its own. We, the people, give it power – with our participation, and the choices we make. Whether or not we stand up for our freedoms. Whether or not we respect and enforce the rule of law."
-- President Barack Obama, Farewell Speech

Thankful for another positive review on Avvo:
"I was so scared upon first meeting Emily, as I had never been charged with a crime before and I was completely clueless on what to do. Not only did she explain, in detail, regularly what was going to take place - but she worked HARD to get the results I wanted.
As a client, Emily opens her doors. You can reach out to her at anytime and she is so professional and knowledgeable. You will feel reassured just knowing your case is in her hands.
And today, because of Emily, I am happy to report that I am conviction-free! I would recommend her to anyone and everyone."

A heartbreaking glimpse at the world that I see everyday - criminal sentencing hearings. A hearing where a judge must balance the need for "justice" with the need for compassion and understanding of my client's story.
thestranger.com At three o'clock in the morning on December 13, 2015, Richard Whitaker shot a man walking toward him and his girlfriend on a Seattle sidewalk.
